                   Support Our Troops Day

Recently the kids of Operation Iraqi Friendship along with the City of Niceville hosted "Kids Support the Troops Day" at the children's park in Niceville, Florida.  The day was a huge success and we want to thank everyone who participated!  We received lots of school supply donations for the children in Iraq and families who attended the event made several cards for our soldiers serving in Iraq.  A very special thanks goes to Florida's US Congressman Jeff Miller who was our guest speaker at the event.  We would also like to thank special guests 96th Air Base Wing Commander Colonel Edmond B. Keith, Lt. Colonel King (who served with the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing in Balad, Iraq), Niceville Mayor Randall Wise, Okaloosa County School Assistant Superintendent Robert McEachern and Chi & Bearemy from Destin Common's Build-A-Bear Workshop.

During a ceremony held during the event, the kids of Operation Iraqi Friendship were given a special award.  The international corporation Build-A-Bear Workshop gives "Huggable Hero" awards out to recognize youth who make a difference in their community and the world.  From over 400 entries, Operation Iraqi Friendship was recognized as the Grand Prize Group winner.  At the event, Build-A-Bear Workshop's mascot, Bearemy presented the group with a $1000 donation to further the cause of Operation Iraqi Friendship.

We would like to give special thanks to some local businesses and individuals who helped make this event a huge success:

*A very special thanks goes to the staff at the Niceville Library for their help in planning and organizing the event.  We also thank the Children's Park and Niceville's Recreation Department for their help in making the event happen.  Thanks to the Niceville Police Department for their help the day of the event.

*Very special thanks to CCP Bayou Printing in Valparaiso, Florida for donating the fliers to promote the event through our local schools!

*Thanks to the Coastal Cheer Elite Pee Wee Cheerleading Squad from Tippy Toes Pro Dance and Cheer Studio in Niceville, Florida for cheering at the event.

*Most of all, thanks to the many men and women who serve our country in the United States Military.  Without you our efforts would not be possible and this event would have never happened.  We thank you for your service, sacrifice and dedication to making the world a better and safer place for children to grow up in.  We honor you as our "American Heroes!"
